Cards from KK

Today the two kids received mail from Aunt Kay. The cards were handmade and featured princess for Evie and animals for Felix. So cute! The kids loved them!

Ellie's Visit

Ellie Turner came to visit on her way back to the States from Africa. She got here yesterday morning and found her way with public transport to our house! I was quite impressed! We spent the day in The Hague and had dinner with the family. We ate real Dutch food, kale and potato mash! After the kids were in bed we went to Amsterdam for the night. Today she went back to the airport to finish her journey.
Yummy poffertjes!

Somewhere in Amsterdam.

Our hotel was perfectly located on the Dam Square. Our view was awesome!

Fun Lovin Criminals

Last night Tom and Liz took went to see Fun Lovin Criminals in Rotterdam. The concert was a blast!!! We had a blast dancing and grooving with the fine music!

Here are two videos to give you a feel for the music:

Can I have the camera?

Felix loves gadgets and electronics. One thing he always wants to get his hands on, but (almost) never does, is the camera. I couldn't help but snap a photo of him chasing me and begging for the camera. No way, boy!

Planting Bulbs

Recently our whole street has gotten a makeover. The sewage pipes needed replacing so might as well redo the whole street. It looks great! And the best part is we now have a little bit of garden in the front of our house. Last week Tom put some plants in there. He also bought a big bag of bulbs so we could have some early spring flowers. This afternoon we put them in the front and back garden. Tulips, crocus, narcissus, etc. It's going to be beautiful. Evie has been doing gardening at her after school care, so she knew all about planting bulbs.

Visiting Baby

Today Evie and Tom went to go visit Baby Jakob. Evie was so happy to hold the little baby and see how teeny tiny his fingers are. I think Jakob liked it too.

Welcome Jakob Oskar!

Hooray! Jakob Oskar was born last night. The labor went very quickly, lasting only an hour and a half! Ulrike and Jakob are doing well and can come home this evening. Carla and Finn got to meet their new baby brother this morning.
Family of Five!

Proud big brother.

Playground

It was such a beautiful afternoon for a nice long walk to a playground we don't go to as often as the other ones. Our monkeys climbed, swung, and hung from everywhere. You gotta love a good playground.

Almost Baby Time

Finn and Carla will soon be having a new baby in the house. Ulrike's due date was this past week and yesterday her water broke. Today Carla came over to play while Ulrike went to the hospital to be checked out again. No baby yet, but the Felix and Carla are having fun while waiting.
Of course it is hilarious to switch sippy cups!

Hahahaha!

Lego Duplo blocks work to keep them entertained for about five minutes.

The good ol' double stroller was pulled out of the shed so everybody could come on a walk.

There was a bouncy house near the grocery store where the kids got to jump! It wasn't busy yet, which made for ideal toddler jumping conditions.

Opa & Oma Weekend

It was another weekend with Opa and Oma in Zoetermeer! The kids went to the big petting zoo there and also enjoyed the nice weather on their bikes and cool car. They are being completely spoiled there!
Sweep, sweep, sweep.

At the petting zoo.

He is probably saying, "dee-ah," which is Felix language for, "Look at that!" (or "that one" or "more" or "I'm hungry." You get the picture)

Cool rides.

There's always time for a popsicle!

Sushi

Today we made sushi again with the kids. Felix got to use his chopsticks for the first time. He did a pretty good job. Evie and Felix each have a special attachment to help keep the chopsticks together while still requiring proper chopstick handling to work well. They still use them the wrong way, but the food gets in their mouth regardless. We love sushi!

Playing Princess

One of our favorite things to play is princess dress-up, of course. Check out our two beautiful princesses, Evelina and Felicia!

Visit to DOK

Yesterday Evie came by DOK to see Liz working and pick out a new cookie cutter. She got to wait in line and pay for it herself.
We ran into Yvo Kuhling in the line.

Evie waits paitently for her turn to pay.

She wanted to just give the money, so Karin had to ask to see the goods first.

We thought she had picked out a cutter of the letter C. "C is for Cookie!" we said. But later that night, upon better inspection of the cookie cutter, we see that it is a G! This was after Liz had to correct her in the bath when she said it had a stripe in it. Apparently Evie knew it all along, but we weren't quite as good at recognising letters.

Playing Rough on the Couch

A fun game for the kids, especially with Papa, is to play rough. In Dutch there is a much nicer word for the action, "stoeien." It sounds much more friendly than playing rough. The kids have a blast rolling around and pushing each other over and laughing, laughing, laughing!!!

Evie's School Update

Evie has now fallen into the routine of school very well. She very much enjoys going and playing with her friends. She has also been enjoying the afterschool care three days a week. The teachers posted some pictures from the classroom - I have plucked them and will share them with you!
Playing with the clay.

Evie's the one with the big smile in every picture.

On Friday afternoons, the students are allowed to bring their own toy - Evie brought her Barbie horse.

This week Evie also had her first after school playdate! Monday Rosalie came over. The two girls had arranged it between themselves during school and asked the moms' permission when we came to pick them up. Rosalie is a year older than Evie but they sit in the same class (combined 1/2 classroom). The girls talked up a storm the whole time and also got to play Candyland and color a picture.
